George Washington Carver was an inventor, an educator, a botanist (he studied plants and agriculture), and a spokesman for black empowerment at a time when America was still segregated. While by today's standards Carver would be seen as too moderate (he did not actively protest segregation, and in fact seemed to accept it), he was one of the few black men of his day (late 1800s--early 1900s) whose opinions were taken seriously by the white establishment. He advocated for better education for black children (many of whom were not being educated at all) and he advocated for an expansion of vocational training so that black students could graduate and find jobs, even in a segregated society.

He experimented with new techniques and improved methods for growing soybeans and peanuts, and for improving soil that had been depleted by not rotating crops. In fact, he was a strong advocate for crop rotation, showing farmers its benefits. He was a long-time professor at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, and an regarded as an expert on agriculture. He often advocated for farmers, especially black farmers; and he was further known for finding new and beneficial uses for soybeans, sweet potatoes, and peanuts, and he taught about how to improve nutrition for the poor.

American President George Washington

George Washington was my hero. He was a great War hero who led the Revolutionary Army to Victory. He was a firm believer in GOD. He asked his help in Private and public life.

George Washington is the Premier American hero truly worthy of his own National Holiday. His Birthday was celebrated as early as 1778, and Congress made it a national holiday in 1870.

George Washington' birthday was celebrated on third Monday of February as President Day instead of George Washington's Birthday. Bill introduced and passed to identify the holiday on third Monday of February.

The more I study George Washington, the more I am convinced that great reputation he enjoyed with his contemporaries and with men of next generation. He was greater than any of us believed he was, as Douglas Southall Freeman a seven volume biography called our First President.

He was honored as great hero America as he was First American President for the Nation.

A couple of days before he died he had a cold, but it was his morning routine to ride out and check on the plantation then come in for breakfast. He came in cold and wet from his ride instead of changing he had breakfast and having a cold all ready it turned into something worse. Within a few hours he was dead. The doctor in attendance bled him which probably didn't help him, but this was a normal medical treatment at the time. Martha locked herself in the room with his body she was so upset, but he was given a Masonic burial ( he was a third degree Mason and past master ) at Mt.Vernon while she looked from a second story window refusing to attend the funeral. Martha stayed locked in their bedroom.
