Forced Russia to give up huge amounts of land, population and Natural Resources, created semi-autonomous and autonomous nations (Finland being the prime example) and moved the vast majority of the troops from the East to the Western Front. By now the US had joined the war and was beginning to send troops to France. So Germany decided to use its troops transferred from the East in the "Spring Offensive" of 1918, driving the British and French troops back across most of the land they had painstakingly won in an attempt to win the war before the US had time to bring in millions of soldiers. However it failed as the British and French troops managed to stop the advance, and most of the best German troops died in the Kommando units.
