When the Nazi regime found itself with a growing hoard of rough, uncut diamonds stolen from the Jews (Life Diamonds), they were stricken with the awful thought that they had no way to grade those diamonds, other than to press Jews who were educated in the process into service, in Amsterdam and Antwerp. This amazing story of forty of those diamonds is to found in a book called "Blood from a Stone" (2003) by Yaron Svoray and Richard Hammer.
