Jacobs sons were known as the Israelites after Jacobs name was changed to Israel.

Answer:

Jacob's sons married and became their own tribes, clans, or families.

Within the historical record of The Bible... they eventually divided into the two "Houses" or "Kingdoms" of "Judah" [the Jews] and "Israel" [the majority of the tribes who followed "Joseph" -- whose inheritance was divided between his two descendants, Ephraim and Manasseh] -- upon whom the name "Israel" was named:

"...let my name [Israel] be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac..." (Gen.48:16).

The House of Israel sinned and were defeated in war and became scattered among the Gentile nations -- and disappeared from view in world history. Thinking themselves to be "Gentiles"... their descendants became some of the most prosperous modern "nations" of today.

The Jews [the House of Judah] maintained their essential identity through their retention and fundamental acknowledgement of God's laws and His sabbaths, and the world has never lost sight of them due to their subsequent returns from timely dispersions and captivity. Today, a remnant of Jews are fulfilling an end time prophecy of Zechariah in the tiny nation in the Middle East the world refers to as "the State of Israel":

"...I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered against it." (Zech.12:2-3)

All-in-all... the sons of Jacob have gone the way of all the descendants of men. They have descended into many of the "families" and "nations" extant in the world today... as promised to Abraham:

"...My covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations." (Gen.17:4)

"...I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee." (verse 6)
