Her overall style is considered conservative, yet elegant. She had her very own fashion designer, Oleg Cassini, to design gowns and dresses for state visits and dinners. Among the trademarks of 'The Jackie Look' were pillbox hats, skirt hems down to middle of the knee, three-quarter sleeves on notch-collar jackets, sleeveless A-Line dresses, above-the-elbow gloves, and low-heel pumps. Her clothing was so expensive, it became a campaign issue since she spent more annually on such clothes than her husband's $100,000 salary as President.
