That his Fathers house had many rooms and he was going to prepare a place for us in that house -

"There are many rooms in my Father's house. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going away to prepare a place for you?"

Answer:

Jesus' Father in heaven has been giving to Him those He's been calling, to "train them [prepare them] to rule the Kingdom of God with Him."

This fabulous Truth is little known or understood in the world... even by the vast majority of modern professing Christianity, who are taught about some kind of "Christian retirement home" in heaven where they, following this life of pain, tears, misery and suffering... they will eventually serve no real function or purpose in heaven forever throughout eternity.

The prophecies tell us, however, that the saints of God will be "given the Kingdom" to rule and judge the nations on earth with Christ when Jesus returns.

"...the saints of the Most High shall take the Kingdom, and possess the Kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever." (Dan.7:18)

"...the Ancient of Days came, and Judgment was given to the saints of the Most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the Kingdom." (verse 22)

"Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? ...Know ye not that we shall judge angels?" (I Cor.6:2-3).

That's what Jesus is promising His servants by "mansions" in His Father's house. The word "mansion" means "offices, positions of authority or chambers." It means JOBS and purpose in the Kingdom of God!

The Bible calls the "Temple" [which is a "type" or "pattern" of the Kingdom of God -- with the inner "Most Holy Place" representing the "third heaven {II Cor.12:2} of the throne of the Father]"... as the "Father's house."

"...make not My Father's house an house of merchadise." (John 2:16)

The construction of the Temple included "many mansions" or "chambers" where "called people" of varying walks of life "performed their duties and functions within the Temple, which kept it running smoothly and efficiently."

"...I brought them into the house of the Lord [the Temple], into the chamber [mansion] of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber [mansion] of the princes, which was above the chamber [mansion] of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door..." (Jer.35:4).

Jeremiah mentions a few of the occupied "mansions" [chambers; offices] from which the Lord's house functioned. In the Lord's house are "many mansions."

This is "patterned" after what the Father has been doing since the beginning. Calling those whom He has "predestined" to become the "rulers of His coming Kingdom." Since the likes of "Abel, Enoch, Noah, etc."... He has been giving His called-out-ones [ekklesia; His elect; His saints] to Christ to train and "prepare" during this lifetime, to execute each of their several offices in the coming Kingdom of God when He returns to earth with it.

"...he that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron..." (Rev.2:26-27).

Jesus even promised His disciples that they would be rulers, specifically over the twelve tribes of Israel in the Kingdom:

"...in the regeneration when the Son of Man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." (Matt.19:28)

"Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed of My Father, INHERIT THE KINGDOM PREPARED FOR YOU FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD..." (Matt.25:34).

The "mansions" Jesus is talking about isn't referring to some idle "Christian retirement home in heaven." He's talking about a "working holiday" [the thousand year 'Sabbath" rest of Christ's rule on earth] where the saints, under Christ's leadership, shall teach the nations of the world God's way... teach them to obey His Commandments... teach them to love one another... heal them... and feed them. Train them to become the Children of God.

"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD: and if Children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together." (Rom.8:16-17)

"...I saw thrones [the thrones Jesus prepared for His saints], and they sat upon them, and Judgment was given unto them[see again, Dan.7:22]... and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

"But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the First Resurrection. Blessed and Holy is he that hath part in the First Resurrection: on such the Second Death hath no power, but they shall be Priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years." (Rev.20:4-6)

Jesus always talked about rewards. Well... His saints will all be rewarded with positions of authority [mansions in His Father's house] according to the efforts and progress they make and put into their training and preparation during this lifetime under Jesus' tutoring.

Many saints are "racing" toward these "mansions"... and there are only so many to fill before the Father will tell His Son that all the Kingdom "mansions" are all filled and prepared and ready for implementation on earth.

These are some of the things Jesus says about His Father's house... and the "preparing" He has been doing since the beginning of creation. He has been "about His Father's business"... working toward ousting Satan as the god of this world... and finishing the creation of the Family of God on earth.

How do the Christian funeral services reflect beliefs about life after death?

One such way is by the readings from scripture that are used. One of the most popular is John 14 1-10:"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us."Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
