Robert Stewart was born in April of 1541 and died 2 days later. Almost the same time James V and Mary of Guise's first son, James Stewart died as well. Early infancy was a scary time for any family in those days. Most people in those days would think something like this happening in a Royal family would be the work of conspirators and say it was poisoning but Scotland was a tough place to live back then... there are some who couldn't take it now. Anyway, so most likely it was a flu of some kind but there was a sins of the father come to hurt his children story going on here with a dream that James V had before his 2 sons died. In Antonia Frasers book "Mary, Queen of Scots" she writes on page 9 and 10 about this very thing. It was said that Sir James Hamilton, whom James V had had executed had come to James V in his dream and told him that he would shortly lose both of his arms and then his head and then picked up a sword and while cutting off both of his arms was said to have said "Take that while thou receive a final payment for all thy impiety" Then shortly after both of his sons died, then he died... that's kinda like losing your head I suppose. Mary, Queen of Scots was Queen at 6 days of age in 1542.
James died on March 27th, 1625, at his favourite hunting lodge - Theobalds in Essex. His funeral was described as magnificent, confused and disorderly.
