Cocolate was around when the Spanish arrived in the new world, its form was not a chocolate confection as it is known today.

The beans were processed by rolling for two days until they were a fine powder. The chocolate was then flavored and hot water added, enjoyed as a warm stimulant beverage.

Chocolate was taken to Europe and the chefs there did not know what to do with this bitter powder infused with coco fat. It was a Swiss confectioner who put the sugar and the fat into the sweet chocolate that we know today.

Yes - the Mexicans did invent burritos. In fact, in Mexico and South America in general, a burrito is a donkey, and in times of great hardship Mexicans would as a last resort carve up their faithful companion and loadbearer and roast him over the fire, usually wrapped in a soft shell wrap to stop the fingers getting burnt.

Unfortunately, donkeys do not taste very good - especially old-half-starved donkeys, so initial efforts to sell soft shell donkey were fairly short-lived, until a brilliant young Mexican chef by the name of Pancho came up with the idea of replacing the donkey meat with tasty fillings.

Once the President of the UnitedStates at the time, jimmy Cater had one and was heard to remark "Eeh Aw - Giddy up", the status of the burrito in modern food folklore was assured.
