We gained a super technologically advanced economic ally in the Far East for one (although at the time I don't think anyone could have predicted that); we prevented the spread of communism and the Soviet sphere of influence; strengthened the UN by giving it a task to perform as a whole (minus the Soviets of course); we learned we shouldn't go to war with China if we really don't have to; and we learned that McArthur, while a brilliant general, can be kind of a jerk sometimes; American and Soviet jet fighters got their first significant combat experience; helicopters were used en masse for the first time in a military situation; the experience of waves of Chinese soldiers charging us finally convinced the Pentagon of the need for a standard assault rifle with fully automatic capabilities, which would eventually lead to the M-16 and other modern American rifles; and the big one: the movie and tv show MASH. If that isn't something, then I don't know what something is.
War does not have gainer, winner or loser. After Korean War, all we had left was pain, and separation. USSR and USA took over the Korea and split in half, 38 degree N, and after that, family splat, and North took influence of Communism of USSR, and South took Republic and Capitalism of USA. i think South was better off with USA because... well you can see north now. North almost took over South as they pushed South up to Busan, which is a harbour city, but south got help from USA, Canada, UN, EU, and from other countries to push a bit northern. So, we didn't theoretically gain anything. Just pain... :(
No offense to Japanese people, but Korean War was caused by Japanese in indirect way. after they have left Korea, which was about 1940s, because of the bomb drop in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrendered and left Korea, and other pacific sea colonies, such as Guam. As they left the Korea, Korean people had nothing. Japanese took their wives, children, husbands, Families, Kins, money, even government. Korean lost the leader and all prince, princess, queen and king, or puppet emperor, and it was to start all over again. Two leader appeared, and one went north, one went south, as Korea's land is stretched north and south. after that, Language started to change a bit, like grammar and vocab, and when North did not have any more money holes to live with, they decided to eat south and unite. unfortunately for them, it did not happened, just like Vietnam War.

What was one effect of the stalemate in the Korean War within the United states
The United States, the Commonwealth States and Turkey.
The Korean War was before Vietnam that the United States was involved in.
The United States joined the Korean War because the US feared that all countries in Asia would be turned to a communist country. At the time of the Korean War, China was a huge factor because China supported North Korea. If the United States did not support South Korea then the domino effect would have been put to effect. In other words.. The United States joined the Korean War to resist communism from spreading.
Ending the Korean War.
