President Roosevelt was afraid that the USA was behind Nazi Germany in the development of the Atomic Bomb. He knew that by 1942 Hitler was working on the bomb and Heinrich Himmler was put in charge of the Nazi Nuclear Bomb Program. On August 27th 1943 a Junkers JU-390 took off from Norway to photograph potential targets in the United States. It flew over Canada, Michigan and at Noon on August 28th 1943 it passed right over the Empire State Building at an altitude of 4,500 feet. This Recon Flight made by Hans Joachim Pancherz and Anna Kreisling greatly troubled President Roosevelt. On January 18th 1944 the same two pilots flew a Junkers JU-390 at night within 12 miles of New York City. This was to test American Air Defenses and confirm that a Nuclear Stike on New York could be done.
