Why was Moses covenant made?

God raised up Moses at the time of the expiration of a prophecy He gave to 'Abram'... just before He established His covenant with him:

"...the LORD said to him, 'Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. You, however, will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a good old age.

"In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.' ... On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abraham and said, 'TO YOUR DESCENDANTS I GIVE THIS LAND..." (Gen.15:13-18 NIV).

God's covenant with Moses and the Israelites occurred in the fullness of time for the fulfillment of that prophecy... and to reestablish God's covenant with Abraham's descendants.

"...the Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. God heard their groaning and He remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them." (Ex.2:23-25 NIV)

"Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years. At the end of 430 years, to the very day, all the LORD's divisions left Egypt." (Ex.12:40-41 NIV)

God made His covenant with Moses, because of His original covenant with Abraham. Moses and the Israelites reestablished their forefathers' covenant with God and inherited its promises of the Christ and to inherit the earth:

"...it was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith." (Rom.4:13 NIV)
