Since it would be 1911 and, if my history is correct, the car was invented then. But only a few people who could afford one. People did more walking and more of them lived where they could walk to work. Horse drawn vehicles and horseback was the main way to travel short distances that were too far to walk.

Train service was good and relatively inexpensive. Practically every town had a railway station and there were many trains making many stops. Many cities and towns had streetcars ,electric or horse-drawn.

There were steam ships for ocean travel and some were quite luxurious. There were still some riverboats on the rivers for domestic travel.
