The Phoenicians were sea going traders, and traveled all around the Mediterranean. They were an advanced Civilization, and through their trade and contact with others they spread their knowledge and customs.
The Phoenicians did not spread civilisation through sea power. The traded around the Mediterranean, and peoples picked up their alphabetic writing.
They established sea trade routes, which helped in the spread of ideas and goods
The ancient mercantile civilization of Phoenicia helped to spread civilization in ancient times primarily through its daring, far-ranging seafaring voyages. Motivated by trading interests above all, yet perhaps also spurred on by the desire to explore for its own sake, Phoenician traders were for many generations the "go-betweens" of older civilizations in the east and newer, rougher societies elsewhere in the Mediterranean and beyond. They carried trade goods, yet at the same time they carried technologies, ideas, and values from one point to another.
They irrigated the crops by capturing water from the Nile River and they distributed the water throughout the farmers fields.
lots of food
There are 3 major ones, the creation of an alphabet later adopted by the Greeks and developed into many modern alphabets. They found and navigated the North Star. Last but not least, they created the first see through glass. But as personal "acheivements" or "medals" to be very proud of, the Phoenicians actually managed to get as far out of the Mediterranean as to actually sail around Africa, starting from the red Sea, and back into the Mediterranean through the Strait of Gibraltar. For their time, it was the same accomplishment as going out to space. Hope this helped.
The Phoenicians were called the "carriers of civilization" because they spread Middle Eastern civilization around the Mediterranean. Their superb navigation and shipbuilding skills helped them spread their ideas around the sea. The location of the Phoenicians helped them as well. By being located at the tip of the Fertile Crescent, travelers came through Phoenicia in search of other places, thereby sharing their ideas. The Phoenicians had the skills to get these ideas around. The alphabet is Phoenicia's crowning achievement. Instead of words based on syllables, here were words based on symbols and the sounds each symbol makes. With this new idea, the Phoenicians (and the Arameans) can truly be called the "carriers of civilization".
the Mediterranean Sea
The first important civilization in the Mediterranean Sea was the Minoan, centered at Knossos, on the island of Crete. Hope this helped! :D
The Mediterranean Sea and the agriculture helped rise the Greek civilization in a few ways. The main important way the Mediterranean Sea help was by land and useful farming.

The Sahara Desert, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Red Sea have helped to isolate Egypt throughout history. The Cataracts of the Nile might also be mentioned, as they halted boat traffic.
