The southern Albion settlers were subjected to Roman rule in the land they renamed Britannia (now England and Wales), while the northern Pictland became Caledonia (now Scotland). The Gaelic word Alba is derived from Albion, but refers only to Scotland. However, the Roman invasion stopped short of the Firth of Forth, only to be driven south to where Hadrian's Wall (built by the Romans) now resides.
