in the beginning the Soviet Union and Hitler had an alliance. on December 17, 1940 Hitler moved his sights toward Russia and away from Britain. Winter set in and the red army was more prepared then Hitler predicted. The red army was superior in every facet:Their planes made of recycled material could sustain major damage and continue on, their ability to suffer the extreme cold was the major upside because hitlers army wasnt prepared for the horrific conditions. ∙ 12y agoIn some areas, near Moscow they burned their own crops. But in other areas they were removing the crop's to starve their own people. The largest genocide took place in the Ukraine where Stalin ordered the removal of 'ALL' the food, much of it was sold to England and Germany.
Over six million (6,000,000) people died during this 'famine'. Germany Attack Russia due to the fact that this was going on, and with Stalin killing many of his General's the Nazi's (Germany) thought Russia would be at its weakest point and most vulnerable. So they moved up their attack, which proved to be a poor military decision.

Nope. Hitler broke the treaty between Germany and Russia. I forgot the name of the treaty, but it states basically that Germany won't attack Russia, and Russia won't attack Germany..something along those lines if I am an ounce correct. Hitler attacked Russia, which broke the treaty, leading Joseph Stalin(Leader of Russia at the time) to join the Allies..and battle against the Axis powers(Germany, Italy, Japan.)
