Only that it was one of those 'If's'

It could have been an important victory for the Union under Burnside, but he was delayed crossing the river - the pontoons hadn't arrived - and Lee and Jackson were given time to occupy unassailable high ground.

The doomed battle was followed by the demoralising 'mud march' (poor Burnside was even unlucky with the weather) and the army was given a new commander Joe Hooker.

He too had a chance to defeat Lee, but the latter General wrong-footed him badly at the next battle, Chancellorsville.

The US Civil Battle of Spotsylvania was a costly one for US Grant's forces. They were unable to penetrate Confederate fortifications. After the last massive assault by Union troops turned out to be a failure, the Union broke off its offensive. The battle essentially caused the war to last longer.

The major US Civil War Battle at Fredericksburg Virginia was important as the Confederate victory ended the tenure of the Union Major General Burnside as commander of the Army of the Potomac. It was a lesson that was ignored in many other battles. At Fredericksburg, Union forces made as many as 12 assaults on the bluff occupied by General Lee's troops. It was a costly Union defeat and as such extended the length of the war.
