The Constitutional convention purpose was to create a consolidated federal government with powers sufficient to coerce obedience to national laws while remaining true the republican principals of 1776. Madison helped get the movement going for the convention and his arguments became the centerpiece for all the compromises and revisions in the constitution . They had dinners, sat together in countless meetings, written to each other about private and public matters. Politics was a face to face affair and as a result the men involved had to negotiate through the problems and agreements. Personal trust was a factor as they sat to form a new government and make a nation of laws, but it also had to be a nation of men.
