The New Moon occured in the 12:00 hour GMT on May 24th. So at local sunset in the US on the 27th, the moon was something like 20% illuminated, and appeared as a thin crescent, low in the west, about 2-1/2 hours behind the sun.

New Moon on 8 July 2013 at 12:15 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time.

So, if you can see the Moon at all, it will be a very thin crescent low on the western horizon at sunset.
