1859, French&Sardinians def. Austrians near the city of Magenta, Italy. The nearby development of the brilliant crimson aniline dye absorbed the name of the town in commemoration.
All colors come from nature.

There are several flowers including a standard phlox and at least two cultivars of fushia that come in magenta.

When mixing paints to achieve magenta, add 1/4 part blue to 2 parts red, mix well and brighten with a touch of white to achieve your desired color.
