During World War II, makeup options were limited due to rationing and shortages. Women focused on simple looks with red lipstick, eyeliner, and blush for a touch of color. Natural beauty was emphasized as resources were scarce.

It was very nice

The style was dark and strong as the lighting was poor strength, gas lighting was the type of lighting used for film and Photography so the make-up had to be strong to be visible, it was fashionable to have a strong red lip in the shape that you would think the female had a permanent pout. This era was the end of using dangerous and poisonous white lead powders but was still fashionable to have fair skin. It was also fashionable to have softly curved thin eyebrows and a soft flush of color in the cheeks. Try search pics of Clara Bow this will give you a visual aid.

One kinda interesting makeup women used in World War II was leg makeup. In the late 1930s and 1940-41 (before December 7, of course) women could get nylon stockings that had a seam running up the back of the leg. They were really expensive so they were seen as a luxury. When the war started you couldn't get these stockings, so women would use makeup to make their legs darker and to draw a fake seam up the backs of their legs.

Face makeup was pretty simple: mascara, a pink-tinted pressed powder (because many women never saw the sun--they worked 12 hours a day, six days a week, making war materiel to help defeat the Axis) and bright red lipstick. No eyeshadow or blush.

During World War II, makeup was still popular among women, but due to rationing and other restrictions, cosmetics were not as readily available as they are today. Many women had to make do with limited supplies, and some even had to resort to making their own makeup.

Here are some common makeup products that were used during World War II:

Foundation

Rouge

Eyebrow pencils

Mascara

Lipstick

Overall, makeup during World War II was more limited in variety and availability, but women still found ways to make themselves look their best with the resources they had.

Why did America start wearing makeup?

Makeup got really popular during World War II. Women who worked in factories making war materiel decided to become "their own women" and shake the taboos of pre-war America. Before the war started, only prostitutes and "flappers" (look it up, it would take too long to explain here) cropped their hair or wore makeup; "good girls" wore nothing on their faces and kept their hair long. During the war, they realized they could do whatever pleased them.

Why did St Kilda FC wear German flag colours during World War 1?

It didn't. During the First World War Imperial Germany's colours were actually red, white and black and not red, yellow and black as they are today. St Kilda FC changed its colours to red, yellow and black, between 1915-22, so as to disassociate itself from Germany. Red, yellow and black were considered suitable replacement colours because they were the colours of the St Kilda Cricket club and also of Belgium, Australia's ally. Germany's current flag (red, yellow and black) was adopted during the Weimar period (1918-33) soon after the Kaiser adication at the end of the First World War. During the Nazi period (1933-45) the Swastika was the official flag of Germany. The Weimar flag (red, black and yellow) was readopted after the Second World War and remains the German flag to this day. I hope this answers your question Neil
