Zealots expected a messianic leader who would be a general, organizing a military campaign against the occupying imperial Roman forces. In the year 132, they found their general, Simon bar Kochba, who was proclaimed to be the messiah by some of the leading religious authorities of the day and who waged a brilliant campaign against Rome, driving Rome out of Jerusalem for several years, and even reestablishing the Temple. The emperor Hadrian had to gather his legions from around the empire to put down the revolt, at immense cost to Rome. And at even greater cost to the Jews, who suffered at least half a million dead, the complete destruction of Jerusalem, forced exile from the land, and a period of persecution throughout the empire.
The Zealots were the people just under the Pharisees. They absolutely hated the Romans because they ruled their land. The Zealots wanted Jesus dead because He did not live up to their expectations as the Messiah. As Messiah Jesus was expected to deliver all the other nations into the hands of the Zealots but He did none of these things, therefore the Zealots got annoyed and they wanted Him dead. The Zealots also wanted to kill Jesus for his sympathetic behaviour towards tax collectors. This is because the Zealots as a group were strongly different to any form of Roman rule and therefore would have been angry with Jesus for encouraging other Jews to pay their taxes to Caesar whom they opposed. The Zealots wanted to be in charge instead of the Romans: they didn't like the Romans but Jesus liked them! Jesus talked to them, told people to accept them and Jesus welcomed EVERYONE so this also meant the Romans and the Zealots definitely did not like that.
Which Zealots do you have in mind?
Zealots
messiah
The Romans did not think that Jesus was the Messiah or the son of God. They had to many of their own Gods and goddesses to worship.
I think that, like in every religion, some were, and some were not. Generalization is never good.
The Romans. There was a group called the Zealots who wanted to overthrow the Romans, violently if necessary. They hoped that the Messiah would turn out to be a Zealot leader. There were probably also a few people, e.g. certain Pharisees, who hoped he would overthrow the Herodians.
The Zealots called for the violent overthrow of Roman rule.
The messiah
The Devil did know that Jesus is the Messiah. But that is exactly what he is trying to get nonbelievers to think.
Ancient Hebrew tribe or group of people who were zealous, that is fanatical or uncompromising.
The new messiah hasn't come yet. The Jews are waitng for Him for example and the Christians think he will come again but no one so far has come forward as the messiah or at least with proof.
