The Coast Gurad catches drug smugglers, aliens and other bad guys while protecting our shores. **Edit** What you are describing is the United States Coast Guard enlisted rating (job) AST, Aviation Survival Technician. This is the same job portrayed in the film "The Guardian." The training and actual job is extremly demanding both physically and mentally. The Coast Guard has 5 main missions: Maritime Safety, Maritime Security, Maritime Mobility, National Defense and protection of Natural Resources.
