A systems analyst is responsible for researching, planning, coordinating and recommending software and system choices to meet an organization's business requirements. The systems analyst plays a vital role in the systems development process. A successful systems analyst must acquire four skills: analytical, technical, managerial, and interpersonal. Analytical skills enable systems analysts to understand the organization and its functions, which helps him/her to identify opportunities and to analyze and solve problems. Technical skills help systems analysts understand the potential and the limitations of information technology. The systems analyst must be able to work with various programming languages, operating systems, and computer hardware platforms. Management skills help systems analysts manage projects, resources, risk, and change. Interpersonal skills help systems analysts work with end users as well as with analysts, programmers, and other systems professionals.

Systems analysts may act as liaisons between vendors and the organization they represent. They may be responsible for developing cost analyses, design considerations, and implementation time-lines. They may also be responsible for feasibility studies of a computer system before making recommendations to senior management.

Basically a systems analyst performs the following tasks:

* Interact with the customers to know their requirements

* Interact with designers to convey the possible interface of the software

* Interact/guide the coders/developers to keep track of system development

* Perform system testing with sample/live data with the help of testers

* Implement the new system

* Prepare High quality Documentation

Computer Systems Analysts Make The World Run?

All organizations rely on computers and information technology in order to perform their functions. The goal of any organization is operational efficiency and productivity in meeting clearly-defined goals. Computer systems analysts design and implement tools based on information technology to help organizations meet those goals. They either design, develop and create computer systems specifically for the organization or they may work with existing computer systems to allocate resources more efficiently. Analysts usually specialize in particular types of computer systems, such as financial systems or scientific or even engineering computer systems. The design and implementation of each system or improvements to an existing system must follow specific, exact goals in order to be successful. The analyst consults with the management of an organization in order to determine the precise nature of the system they desire. Using precisely structured rules, which may include accounting principles depending on the system, they create a system from scratch or improve upon an existing one. The objective is to create a system that meets the needs of the organization while having enough room for flexibility to accommodate changes and modifications if they are needed. Computer systems analysts may work computer programmers to actually create the programming that runs the new system. The construction of the system’s hardware is not usually handled by the analyst, although they can supervise and make sure it is set up according to their plans. The objective is to make sure the organization’s goals are met, which means the system must be constructed to exact specifications. Computer systems analysts are also heavily involved in networking different computer systems together. The growing usage of different computer systems even within the same organization has resulted in the need to network different systems together so they can communicate and transfer data. Computer systems analysts are expected to be in high demand as information technology grows ever more complex. They work in comfortable settings in laboratories or offices. Salaries range from seventy-four thousand dollars to eighty-nine thousand dollars per year. Computer systems analysts are projected to have excellent job prospects as the demand for sophisticated computer systems grows.
