Ear infections can have many symptoms, including no symptoms in chronic ear infections. Some symptoms of ear infections (from various causes) include:

  • fullness - may also be ear wax
  • pressure
  • aching
  • itching - constant rubbing, tugging, or pulling on the ear, especially in babies and young children
  • pain in ear canal, in front of ear, or behind ear -- however, these can also indicate other unrelated problems
  • increased pain with changes in air pressure - such as on an airplane or going up and down mountain roads
  • redness in ear canal - a sign seen by a doctor
  • drainage from ear
  • sore throat - ear and throat infections often occur together
  • sinus drainage in throat along with ear symptoms
  • decreased hearing in one ear
  • sensation of fluid inside the ear
  • fever over 100 degrees F - a sign common with a combination of Strep Throat and Ear infection - the fever can often be higher than 101 degrees F.
