Judas is a variant of Judah, and when the sons of Jacob sold Joseph into slavery, it was Judah who sought money and received 20 pieces of silver (Gen 37:26-7). In another reference, the king was betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (Zech 11:14), which he hurled back into the temple, just as Judas did, but only in Matthew(27:5). When Ahithophel's betrayal of King David was discovered, he hanged himself (2 Sam 15:12-17:23), just as Judas did, again only in Matthew.
If all references to Judas and the thirty pieces of silver were substantially the same, the Old Testament references could perhaps be seen as forshadowment, but as they do differ we can see that the authors were looking back to the Old Testament, which they knew well.
