Those with partial African and partial European ancestry are called mulattoes. It is a very offensive term, or used to be in the olden times.
The accepted word is biracial or mixed ancestry. Mulatto is offensive and should not be used.
'mulatto'
Mulato
It is insulting to call anyone cracker, black, or white. Cracker is an offensive, racial term and there are plenty of them. The correct term for black is African-____ (depending on where the person is from) The correct term for white is European-____ (too depending on where the person is from)
It is most likely that any country you go you hear a number of languages spoken related to Europe. The continent of Africa ( with the exception of Euthopia and Liberia) similarly to North America and the Caribbean have been colonies of European powers in the 16-20th centuries. As a result to this countries in Africa together with Euthopia and Liberia speak European Languages.
Jamaica is an island in the Caribbean not in Africa (or anywhere near Africa). So Jamaicans aren't African. They are dark skinned (black) but not of African heritage so they can't be an African American. ________________________________________________________________ ok let me start of by saying that i am jamaican. and u are absolutely wrong, MOST jamaican have some sort of african ancestry. thats where the color in our skin comes from. the thing is, we are not americans so it would be silly to call us african americans. african american refers to AMERICANS with african decent and only them. however we are JAMAICANS with african decent so it would make more sense to call us african jamaicans but that isnt a term so we just call ourselves black (to tell u the truth, even the indians i know in jamaica would consider themselves black over white because in our heads jamaica is a black country) (allthough it really isnt). the actual term is afro-jamaican. but as i said, we just call ourselves black people because of the african decent.
its an aardvark
You can call them African.
It can be seen as one depending on the person. Though black people have African ancestry, not all are directly from Africa or wish to be called African as opposed to where they may actually be from (e.g. America, France, Britain, Canada, Australia, etc). The same would be for a white person (or any person, truly) and their European ancestry. To just call them "European" can be seen as an insult since they may have been born and raised in a whole different part of the world and feel they have very little connection to the European continent. You call people by their name with respect, and if they wish and choose to be called another title, keep it to that individual and do not generalize it simply because they share the same skin color or heritage as another.
A person who studies family ancestry is called a genealogist.
It depends on your idea of an African-American. Some believe it means that the person is a descendant from an African who was forced to immigrate to America as property. But if that was the case, then Obama would not qualify as an African-American. My Nephew has a beautiful European Mother and a handsome, America, Black father. What do you call him? And what about the Africans who are citizens of America, yet they have there ancestry in and from Africa. What do you call them Einstein? Some people like me, believe that there is an African-American in all of us because we all have ancestry in and from Africa. We all came from there. If you must call me by my place of birth, then say I am a Ohio-American, 5th generation. At this time the question is unanswerable.
Mixed-Blood people who are of Native American and European Ancestry are people who have both Native American and European Ancestry. Mixed-Blood is the word, given that if you are mixed Amerindian and European, you are neither one or the other, you are MIXED-BLOOD. Some other words for mixed-bloods are: 1. Metis 2. Mixed-Blood 3. Mestee 4. Mestizo Also, if you are tri-racial, Native American, African American, and European, you have the right to call yourself MELUNGEON. Please do not confuse the people who are named MELUNGEON and you as MELUNGEON. In order for me to avoid the whole Melungeon tribe/identity confusion, I just simply call myself MIXED-BLOOD.
native american
If you're white then you'd call a black person African or African-American. If you're black then you'd call a white person a white person.
