What do you check next if your 89 Mazda 323 with a new coil won't spark when turning it over?

I assume you have new spark plugs, ignition leads, distributor cap and rotor. Also verify that you have 6 Volts at the coil negative terminal when the igniton switch is in the "Start" position. If all the above is correct, then the problem may be the trigger module in your distributor. I suggest getting a replacment from an auto-wrecker (cheaper than new from the dealer. Good luck Malcolm

check for power at coil if you have power with key on then check for spark comming out of coil and coil wire if you have spark there then make sure distributer rotor is turning by removing cap and cranking over

check your coil, and your distributor, and ditributor cap, along with all wires and connections.

Check your coil with an inline spark tester. If no spark to the distributor check for power to the coil. If power to the coil but no spark then coil is bad. If coil is sparking the problem is in the distributor. If no power to the coil trace back the wiring to the power source (battery voltage) Check the points to make sure they're gaped properly & not burned or corroded. Check cap & rotor while you're in there also. while the cap is off turn it over and check to see if the rotor (shaft) is turning.

Check HT lead from coil to distributer, check that rotor arm is turning when cranking, change/clean spark plugs, check points gap, check spark plug leads. Oh is there fuel in the tank and is it getting through?

Check there is spark from the coil. Pull a plug and set it close to a ground and see if there is spark when cranking. If not, then coil or ignition module. If spark, then check fuel pressure at rail. Check fuel pump is coming on when turning key to on. Should hear it.
