What do you do if the front end of your 1998 Lincoln mark viii lsc is squeaking terribly?

Does the squeaking occur when your are turning right to left or when you hit a bump in the road? My experience was with the ball joints. You see cars stuck along side the road and looks as if the wheel fell off? Hey those darn ball joints they cost about $10.00 buck and you will need a ball joint press tool to make things a lot easier.
