Chances are the rack-and-pinion gears for the mechanical part of the ignition switch are worn and that caused the jam. It can be fixed by slipping a shim under the gear rack but you'll need to disassemble the steering assembly to reach it and this is NOT a job for an amateur mechanic. If you can't afford to pay a repair shop get a "Haynes" service manual for this model (it has a good description of how to do it) and a friend with mechanical skill to help. Good Luck!
