Just remain friends. The fact that he is "only separated" should tell you something. Is there a chance of reconciliation on the other end, and the fact thry have a kid is always a chance of reconciliation. Stay low for a while, just talk, don't let your heart get emotionally involved just yet, you don't want it broken. Talk with him and ask him the status of his situation with the other person. I'm sure he will say, it's over, but find out why just separated still? When will the final be fianl? Take into consideration how long he has been separated? If it is short, then be expected to be the rebound girl. If it has been a while, then he should be ready to make it final.
