Netting suspended over the plants and snug to the ground will work. Another option is mylar tape strung up in the rows about 5 inches from the ground. Mylar tape is a shiny red and silver tape that scares he birds away. Something you can try if you don't like these options is to paint some walnuts (whole) red pre- strawberry season and place them in the edge of the patch or between rows. Birds will check these out and then find them unpleasant and hopefully by the time the strawberries come they won't think they are worth trying.
