AnswerA.Y.C. stands for active yaw control. It transfers torque between the rear wheels for better stability. There is a hydraulic pump hanging under the back of the car, (easy to rust up and fail on UK versions) that applies pressure to the speed up, or the slow down gearing of the right hand wheel in relation to the un-controlled left hand wheel. This gives the Mitsi evo cars "cornering on rails" ability, compared to the similar speed Subaru that just uses a passive lsd.

To help explain: In an aeroplane you can change direction using the wing flaps, or the rudder on the tail fin, to turn left or right, its a similar set up on an evo, where the back end is meant to follow the front end with some additional computer controlled assistance.

on the later Evo 7-9 they also use a pressure system to control the traction in the center diff, to prevent all 4 wheels spinning, if in gravel or snow, compared to the traction found on dry tarmac.
