Presumably that was supposed to be "mean"? If so then BCE is a reference to time literally being an acronym meaning "Before Common Era". This is basically the equivalent to 'BC' which has been used prior to the 21st century. For all intents and purposes it is a non-denominational version of the Christian calendar. Where you would expect to see 'AD' you will now see 'CE' (Common Era). This version is becoming more widespread in the UK due to its religious neutrality.
