"Jehovah" means "the existing One." It appears only in the Old Testament (more than 6,500 times), and Strong (#3068) defines it as "the proper name of the one true God." It is actually a "substitute" for God's true name, which the Hebrews considered too holy to be pronounced. It is most often rendered "LORD" (all caps), and is never applied to Jesus, even though the New Testament reveals that Jesus and God are "one" (John 10:30).

"Messiah" means "anointed" or "anointed one." It appears only twice in the Old Testament and twice in the New, where the Hebrew "Messiah" was translated into the Greek word "Christos," or "Christ" (which appears nearly 570 times). It is not a name, but a title that identifies Jesus as God's "chosen one." It is never applied to God; only Jesus is called the Messiah, or Christ.

John 1:41 - He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ). [NKJV]

Is Jehovah God or Jesus?

Well the answer is both, JEHOVAH is both God & Jesus. JEHOVAH, The Great I AM, is the creator of the world. "In the beginning GOD created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1). Jesus is the creator, "All things were made by HIM (the Word or Jesus), and without HIM (the Word or Jesus) was not anything made that was made." (John 1).

What religion did jesus's parents belong to?

Jesus' mother was named Mary (there are more than one Marys in the Bible). Jesus' father is God, whose name is Jehovah. Mary was Joseph's wife. Using his holy spirit, Jehovah made Mary pregnant so that Bible prophecy would be fulfilled and Jesus would be born. Joseph is not the fleshly father of Jesus, but Mary is the fleshly mother. Mary and Jehovah God are not married or anything, Jehovah just used Mary because Jehovah discerened that she had a good heart condition. So, Jesus is Jehovah's son. Both Mary and Joseph were disciples of Jehovah God. Today, the name of people who follow Jehovah God are called Jehovah's Witnesses. So. all in all, the were Jehovah's Witnesses. Hope that makes sense and helps.

Is Laramie Dean a Jehovah's Witness?

Yes. Both he and his wife were Jehovah's Witnesses when they were married in 1996. As of 2015, they both attend the Universal Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Studio City, California. They are both active in the religion, which means they knock on people's doors (on a monthly basis at the minimum) to tell them about the Bible and Jesus Christ.

Should messiah be capitalized?

Yes *No. The original idea of "messiah" was "anointed one." Early Jewish peoples were not necessarily expecting one messiah. The idea of one, true Messiah is a later construct, usually referring to Jesus. If you are using Messiah as a name for the figure of Jesus, or possibly someone else, then it should be capitalized. If you are using the word to talk about early Judaism, it probably should not be capitalized.

Are the Jehovah's witnesses a kind of group like Jews?

No, the Jehovah's Witnesses are a Christian denomination. They share a common root however because the Jehovah's Witnesses view Jesus as their Savior and Jesus was born on earth as a Jew. Both Jews and Jehovah's Witnesses were bitterly persecuted during the 2nd World War under Hitler's regime. The Jews because of their ethnicity and the Jehovah's Witnesses because they refused to cooperate with the Nazis.

What religion believes Jesus Christ is coming back Islam Christianity or both?

Islam believes Jesus Christ was only a prophet, not the Messiah. So the answer is: Christianity, which teaches that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and is coming back, the hope of all Christians.Another Answer:Both do but only Christianity believes Jesus will return as the King of kings. Some branches of Islam teach that Jesus will return to earth not as King or Lord of lords as the Bible teaches, but rather to accompany their 'mahdi' - the Islamic messiah, and to convert the world, including Christianity, to Islam by force.

Is Jesus Christ the only Messiah the world will ever know?

Actually, no. The world has seen many messiahs, and will see many more. One of the definitions of "messiah", according to Webster's Universal College dictionary (1997 edition), is"any expected deliverer or savior"While a "messiah" often is a religious personage, a "messiah" far more often is a person who simply "saves the day" when needed. Consider all the famous people throughout History who have delivered their Nations and Peoples from destruction, persecution, oppression, financial hardship, etc -- they were all "messiahs".So the statement that "Jesus Christ is the only Messiah the world will ever know" is a false statement. It is a completely different thing to state that "To many Christians, who follow his Teachings and Commandments, Jesus Christ is The Messiah" (note the capitalization of both "The" and "Messiah").

If Jesus was Jewish then why is he the head of Christianity?

Both Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism, (the one we see today), are both descendants of Biblical Judaism. Christianity started in 30 (when Jesus died and was resurrected), and Rabbinic Judaism started in 70, after the second destruction of Jerusalem. These are different religions and Jesus has nothing to do with Rabbinic Judaism. ====Another View==== Jesus came as King of the Jews, according to scripture. He also came as Messiah Savior. While both are true, His earthly "kingship" will not be realized until He returns. Why is Jesus, a Jew (or Jewish) the head of Christianity? Christians believe that, according to Old Testament prophesy, Jesus is the promised Messiah. Old Testament prophecy said the Messiah had to come down through the line of David, a Jew. There was never any prophecy or expectation of a non-Jewish (re>Gentile) Messiah. Keep in mind that there are many, many Jewish Christians. Christianity is not a non-Jewish faith. Christ came to save the world, and that includes everybody.
