The transmission computer is indicating a problem. To diagnose it:
Locate the two-wire terminal plug behind the glove box, under the dash in the passenger side. Strip both ends from a 6 inch section of VERY thin, scrap wire. You're making a jumper wire.
With the key off, insert each end of the wire in to each side of the terminal plug, (to jump/short across it). Turn the key on (don't need to start the engine). Look at the D4 light, and count the flashes. Note that it may do one or more long flashes, followed by one or more short flashes. The long flashes are units of 10, and the short flashes are units of one. In other words, one long flash followed by 4 short flashes indicates code 14.
There are more than 45 different codes, so I'm not going to describe them all here.
Some indicate minor problems that are inexpensive and easy to fix, such as the VSS, vehicle speed sensor, etc.
Transmission repairs being as costly as they are, these codes may be worth learning what they are before you take your car to a professional.
Run the diagnostic above, count the flashes a couple of times to make sure you've got it right, and post the number here, and I'll look it up for you. When you're finished, turn the key off, and unplug the jumper wire.
If you're a regular 1994-1997 Accord maven, you'll note the 2 wire plug is the same exact plug as those for the front dash speakers on LX models. Go to your local Pick N Pull, and get the female plug from the speaker from one of the wrecks, and be sure to take at least 5 inches of the wire attached to it. Strip the ends of both wires, and use a solderless crimp connector to connect them together, and viola! your own transmission diagnostic jumper plug for your tool box arsenal.
