Yes, red-eared sliders need a dry area to get out of the water. Above this area should be a turtle basking lamp. Aquatic turtles will bask daily. Basking keeps the turtle's skin and shell health from fungus while the UV in the light is needed for the turtles growth. Without a dry area and a basking light your turtle will not be healthy and happy.
Watch your red eared slider while they are feeding. Notice the way that their eyes focus on their food to the point where they are nearly cross-eyed? That is a signal when they are about to bite something. So when their eyes focus, that is when they are about to 'attack'.
it does grows another one
Easily 50 years if not more. Most live to be about 30-35 or so.Red eared sliders can live up to 40 yrs in captivity. In the wild though they usually only live up to 20 yrs. With good care and warmth, your turtles will live for a while. Make sure you give them nice warm light bulb so they can relax. If you want your turtle to live for a while, I suggest you buy a light bulb.
they need lots of swimming water land food sun shine or sun lamp tank there, but can live a while without food or water
They will go to sleep at night by themselves, if you make it dark enough. You just turn the aquarium's UV lamp off, and dim the lights in the room, and in a little while the turtles will go to sleep.
Yes they can. They are very healthy for a turtle. A turtle can eat alot of different fruits. And vegtables..
Yes, red eared sliders and yellow bellied sliders are both subspecies of "pond slider", in the wild where their range overlaps they mate quite often producing what are called "intergrades". The particular intergrade between a yellow bellied slider and a red eared slider often has features of both, large yellow markings on the head with a red corner.
Red eared slider turtles that have been raised in captivity or have been in captivity for a while LOVE people. They all have different personalities though. An example is my 1 1/4 inch long Red eared slider turtle, he has been in captivity for about 2 1/2 months now he has just recently started coming out of his shell, hehehe. He doesn't enjoy being held but he loves to chase my finger around when I put it up to the side of the tank and for me to just pay attention to him while he is in the water. And he loves to pose for pictures! Other turtles will crawl up onto your hand and bask there or will want you to scratch their shell. As you can see all turtles have different personalities, just like people, but most make great, compatible and loving, pets.
He might have shell rot, If that's the problem you should go to your vet, But if your turtle has been out of water for a while it is probley just dryed out. Then you might want to put it in some water for a while , yellowbelly sliders must have water in their habitat. Hope this helped!
An eared seal has visible ears, while the true seal does not.
Yes, every thing should be fine just watch them and make sure that they get along. Also, understand that these turtles will get large(Red Eared Sliders get 10-12in and male Mis. maps get about 5in while female Mis. maps get 10in) so you will need to keep them in a 150gallon plus tank or backyard pond. Hope every thing works out!
