Salt systemI purchased one and found the following site in my research http://www.poolplaza.com/pool-school/salt_pools.shtml . I love my salt system and wouldn't haven't any other way. Good luck. How salt generators workIn a nut shell: Chlorine is made from salt, So the Generator splits the salt molacule into 2 parts 1 part chlorine or (sodium Hypochlorite)and 1 part 1/2 salt and the other Hydrachloric or Muratic acid. Therefore adding Chlorine to water and at the same time keeping the PH neutral at about 7.0 unless of course you swim in it and then your pH rises.

Salt water systems work by electronically converting part of the salt usually Sodium chloride into chlorine as the filtrations system is working this stop you having to buy and handle chlorine.

the low levels of salt in the water pass through a bunch of platelets that are electrically charged. the reaction of electricity passing through salt water is chlorine. not very indepth but that's the jist of it. it has been in use for years in australlia. however, they don't' have ladders in their pools. the salt water corrodes metal rapidly. ask your supplier about an electromagnetic disc for your skimmer basket to prevent this.

Salt usually "potassium chloride" is added to water turning it into electrolyte the water is passed through an anode cathode element. as it does this electricity passes through the water between the anode and cathode this in turn breaks down the salt to produce chlorine. aside from that a saltwater system is the same as any other. With a salt water pool salt is added to the water which is then run through an electronic element that converts part of the salt to chlorine gas which is in turn dissolved into the water. this eliminated the need for adding chlorine to the water, as well as making the pool more pleasant to swim in. Other then that it is exactly the same as a ordinary freshwater pool.

Some of the miss conceptions about a salt water pool is that people seem to think that all you have to do is add slat to the water and that does it.WRONG. Salt, (sodium chloride,) by itself does not have the (chemical make up) to sanitize the water on its own. The small amounts of chlorine that the residential generators do, ONLY if the pool water is balanced properly. You should still balance the PH (which will be higher in salt pools anyway), adjust hardness and alkalinity at least once a week depending on pool usage. Salt pools are great for low maintenance but the key word that everybody does not pay attention to is MAINTENANCE. Your pool will still need attention from someone, be it you or the pool boy.

Salt water pools are one of the biggest "snake oil" snow jobs ever perpetrated upon the consumer by an entire industry you will ever see. I have never sold one, have recommended against them and yet I love them. I am a pool remodeling contractor who has made hundreds of thousands of dollars repairing the damage done by them...NUFF SAID!!

The Salt water pool filtration system is the same as any other filtration system used in Swimming Pools. The Difference in the system lays in the salt in the water. Salt is added to the water so that when it is run through the filtration system it also passes through a chlorinator that converts some of the salt into chlorine electronically By using this method of chlorination you never have to put chlorine in the pool and it makes the water feel more pleasant to swim in. The amount of salt in the water is about the same as that in your tears.

All salt water systems work the same salt is added to the waterwhich is run through a chlorine generator which creates chlorine gas and mixes it into the water.

Why does the water in a swimming pool look more shallow from the outside than when you step in?

This phenomenon occurs due to the refraction of light as it travels from the air into the water. When light enters the water at an angle, it changes speed and bends, causing objects beneath the water's surface to appear shifted and closer to the surface than they actually are. This refraction effect makes the water appear shallower when viewed from the outside.
