The one I have detects the nails or screws in the studs thereby locating the approximate center of the stud. some of the newer ones might do it differently. I don't know about them but the older like mine does a great job.
With a stud finder, most studs are on 16 inch center so measure from an outside corner 16 and you should be close. Look for dimples where nails are not completely covered or have popped the finish. Sheetrocked wall, you can tap on the wall and it will sound more solid over the stud.
Answer By putting your ear to the wall : A wall is a collection of studs (usually sized 2x4 or 2x6) equally spaced (usually 16 in. or 24 in. on center) and sandwiched between top and bottom plates. : If you start from the corner, you can measure 16" or 24" and hope that you find a stud. You can hit the wall, and where it sounds more hallow, no stud exists where the sound is higher, there is a stud. But if you can't tell a difference, then measuring could be your only bet.
In commercial building the exterior block wall is used as a finished surface. If you have electrical or plumbing needs you can build a stud wall next to the CMU wall. You really don't need to secure it to the Cmu wall as long as there is an adjoining wall to support it or ceiling joists.
Yes and half the stud width.
A post in which it holds the jacks against / within the wall framing
An electronic stud finder will self calibrate when you first put it against a wall, providing you haven't put it directly in front of a stud. It will take a sounding of the density where it is and then alert you when the density changes,ie. when you approach the edge of a stud.
Find a stud using a stud finder. You can buy them at the hardware store. Drive a nail and then hang the mirror off it.
This is very much dependent on the type of wall! My moto is any TV on any wall. A stud partition wall is usually the most difficult. But if you have a stud finder this would eliminate the problem.

Get a good stud finder and make a drawing of where the studs are. Get a good 'pin nailer' and compressor , then attach the sheets to the studs with 1. 9 " nails .
if it's a block wall: nail in furring strips every 24" on center with hardened nails top to bottom on the wall (wear eye protection) if it's a frame wall: buy a stud-finder and a chalk line, find the studs and pop a line top to bottom at the center of each stud. . .get the stud finder that also shows where any electric lines are behind the wall so you won't nail into any electric attach the siding with finish nails either application (longer nails for the wood wall application) or common nails if you really want the barn look hope this helps!
The best way is to have a stud finder, once you find the studs anchor your cabinets with woodscrews, make sure your screw is at least 1 inch into the stud, use several screws (the number of screws is dependent on the weight).
The most important tools are a stud finder, a screwdriver and a level. The wall mount MUST be affixed to a stud because if they are not anchored to a stud, there is a highly likely chance that it will fall and possibly hurt someone badly or worse. There have been cases of this happening many times. Secondly, the screw driver and level will install the mount to the wall and the tv to the mount.
