flying saucer with spring loaded seal in the centre that opens and shuts as the temperature rises or cools.looks like a top , 50 ml,s -2 inch round
A thermostat always looks like a small rubber valve with a spring. It is inside the thermostat housing on the top of the engine (top coolant hose exit)
It looks kind of like a UFO, only 2 inches wide.
looks like a sensor or thermostat going into engine block
Looks like 190 from the factory. See link for discussion on optional 160 degree thermostat.
Looks like it needs a repair.Looks like it needs a repair.Looks like it needs a repair.Looks like it needs a repair.
Any GM engine only has 1 thermostat. On the 4 cyl, many people get confused as to its location. It is not in the upper radiator hose / housing on the engine. This looks like it should be ther, but it is not. It is actually on the back of the motor, under the exhaust manifold. Have had some people put a thermostat in the housing on the top that looks like it should have a thermostat. This caused overheating problems. TechJK ----------------------------------------------
Follow the hose coming out of the bottom of the radiator, it goes under the oil pan up under the exhaust manifold. I had that part out to get my oil pan off and it looks like thermostat up there. You need to take of the shield over the manifold to get at the bolts holding it on. I'm not sure if it is the thermostat but sure looks like one.
Usually this is not the case. It looks like a bad thermostat, because no way the coolant is not getting hot, but a rusted up thermostat would not open for the coolant to circulate. If I were you I will change the thermostat first than check the water pump.
The thermostat is located facing the engine bay on the right back side of the motor, it looks like a shiny metal knob with a hose going into it. That's the housing, the thermostat is inside that
The longer side of the thermostat with the spring on it faces the engine. The small side that looks like it comes to a point faces the radiator.
The bleed screw is by the thermostat housing it looks like a brake bleed screw
try taking out the thermostat and have you put to much oil and coolant in the radiator
