A "tune-up" is what the shop uses to make it sound like you are getting a good thing done to your car. All they do is change the spark plugs and wires, some will try to get you to buy new coil packs(don't do it, they will last longer than your engine in most cases) or distributor (do it, it is a good thing). A Real tune up would include new spark plugs and wires as well as a wide range of other tests and checks ex: fuel system cleaning, battery test, valve clearance adjustment, oil change, air filter, Power Steering fluid check, Transmission Fluid check/flush, coolant test/flush, ect
According to the User's Manual a tune up on a 2003 Jeep Liberty 3.7L consists of replacing the sparkplugs and checking/replacing the PCV valve, if necessary. I recently had my 60,000 mile service performed and the cost for the tune up (not a dealership) was about $110. how do i change spark plugs?
The average tune-up will consist of changing the spark plugs and spark plug wires. The fuel injection system should be cleaned. A new era filter should be installed.
