CAM or Spark? the cam has cogs, they are marked. the disty is not marked, (like all disty) but needs IGnition strobe light ($20 at HF)
COULD BE YOUR TRANNY,IF YOU HAVE AN AUTO TRANNY. GO TO LOCAL SHOP AND SEE IF ANY ONE CAN READ THE CODES FOR YOU. SECOND THOUGHT I COULD BE THE SECONDARY COIL IN THE DISTY. SEE WHAT TYPE OF WARANTY YOU HAVE ON YOUR DISTY. IT IS POSSABLE THAT YOU HAVE THE WRONG DISTY IN YOUR CAR. THEY MAKE A SMALL CAM AND A LARGE CAM DISTY YOU MAY NEED THE LARGE CAM WHICH ALSO TAKE A DIFFERENT ROTOR SAME CAP. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MINE, TURNS OUT IN MY LITTLE RINKY DINK 4 CYL. CAR WITH A MANUAL TRANS YOU NEED A HIGHER OUT PUT, WHICH THE LARGE CAM PUTS OUT A HIGHER OUT PUT.
open hood or bonnet. on 89-98 it is that funny black thing dead center top. with 4 high voltage wires going to 4 spark plugs on top. if after 98 or any DOCH, id dont have a DISTY. so i cant answer , no year stated. I have a 04 Tracker with a V6 and has no DISTY. see my profile for a great link.

Yes, You can it. only fabricated right engine mount and move brake disty box. use stock gearbox.
-Disconnect vacuum hose at old vacuum advance "can".-Remove distributor cap - wires can usually be left attached to cap, but red wire to cap may have to be disconnected to manipulate cap away from disty.-Remove ignition rotor.-Remove two ( usually ) screws attaching Vac. Advance can to distributor.-Carefully disengage vac. advance can lever from advance mechanism on disty.-Remove can.-Install new can;manipulate advance can lever ( rod ) into nub on advance ring before tightening screws holding down advance can onto distributor.-Install rotor.-Reinstall disty. cap - making sure 4 hold-down screws are seated securely.-Re-connect any wires disconnected from cap.-Re-connect vacuum line to advance can.Drive happily, with more power on hills.-J.Snick -- Question Authority --
what engine? 1.6, or 1.8 Liter. 1.6 the CMP (real name) is inside the distributor , so buy new disty. no parts inside disty are sold. 1.8L (and bigger ) there are 2. on 1.8L you 1: unbolt it 2; then index the offset key and plug in the new. 3: then insert a jumper wire int he DLC , called the freeze jumper. 4: strobe light time the CMP running at idle hot. 5: open hood, look up ,see white sticker, see xxx BTDC, that is your spec timing
It could be the fuel pump filter, but iwouldnt start there. The ICM on the disty is probaly going bad. You can do an HEI mod, or just replace the distributor. Your call
IF YOU ARE FACING YOU CAR LOOKING AT THE ENGINE THE VALVE COVER CLOSER TO THE FIRE WALL LEFT TO RIGHT IS 1,3,5 AND THE ONE VALVE COVER CLOSER TO THE FAN FROM LEFT TO RIGHT IS 2,4,6 :THE LINE THEM UP TO THE NUMBERS ON THE DISTY CAP.

Most of them, 94-98 The 93:s second gen have a different wiring than the 94-98 when it concerns the engine electrics but mechanically thay are more or less the same. My 94 SE is running with the disty from a Mazda 626, the driveshafts from an Ford Probe GT V6 - 97, the brake discs and brake pads for a Mazda 626. The engine is more or less equal to the Mazda 626 egine, the valve cover differs. The chassie is more or less mechanically a 626. The Probe is an MX-6 with different valve cover and bumpers and the MX-6 is the sportier model of an 626.
It mean what you don't what does it mean.
