it means you must input the correct radio code. it should be supplied with your owners manuel packet. if not you must remove the radio, get the serial number and go to the dealership to get the code. err1 means you have entered the wrong code once. do not enter the wrong code anymore or you will have to re-set the radio.

A tip. When asking questions about the Solara it's best to mention the year and sometimes the model. There are huge differences between the generation I and generation II models. To try and answer your question, there is no err1 code (unless the code reader you're using drops the zeros.) The closest is code P0100 which indicates a Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Malfunction. The below is correct. The only other option you have is to go to the dealership and give them what they call your Audio system serial number. This is how you get it, first turn on your vehicle. Then to access the serial number, turn the radio on. It must display "CODE"(not "ERR1" if you attempted to guess the code), then turn the radio off by pushing the power button(you will have a blank screen). Push the preset1, preset 6 and radio power buttons at the same time, then quickly release. If done correctly you will get a 10-digit serial number displayed in increments of 5 digits at a time.
