What the switch looks like has changed over the years, the 1995 to 2001 switches are not the same looking as the 2002 and newer switches (on the 4 doors) The similarities are they (the fuel pump inertia switches) are all found in the right front passenger area. They all have a button on top, that pops up if the switch has been tripped, and they all have a wiring connector connected to the bottom of the switch. On 1991 to 1994 models, the switch is to the right of the transmission hump, mounted on the toe board , just under the edge of the carpet On 1995 to 2001 models, the switch is in the right front corner, mounted on the toe board , just beside the right foot kick panel On 2002 and newer (on the 4 doors) the switch is mounted on the right foot kick panel.
That's the inertia switch for the electric fuel pump , if the Ford Explorer receives a substantial jolt like being in an accident or maybe hitting a bad pothole , then the switch might trip opening the circuit to the electric fuel pump so no power flows to the fuel pump
On a 1991 Ford Explorer : I BELIEVE the fuel pump shut off switch ( inertia switch ) is in the front passenger footwell , under the front edge of the carpet , mounted on the toe board just to the right of the transmission hump
In the right front passenger footwell , by the kick panel what does it look like
Fuel shutoff switch 2000 explorerOpen the tailgate and find the panel that holds the jack on the left side and the fuel shutoff switch is located in this area and looks like a small yellow button.=======================================================According to the 2000 Ford Explorer Owner Guide :The fuel pump shut off switch ( inertia switch ) is in the frontpassenger footwell , by the kick panel* the kick panel is the interior trim panel , in front of the frontdoor , beside the passengers feet( the first answer is not mine , the 2nd answer is - Helpfull )
it is a small button underneath the dash on the passenger side of the car, it is down where the passengers ankle would be. behind the carpet
On a 1997 Ford Explorer : I believe it would be ( 79.5 litres / 21 U.S. gallons ) like it is on my 1995 Ford Explorer XLT
A 1976 Ford Bronco would still have a carburetor for the engine , so it does not have a fuel pump shut off switch ( inertia switch ) like the Ford fuel injected engines do ( that use an electric fuel pump ) * if that is what you mean
On a 1998 Ford Explorer : In the Power Distribution Box ( which is " live " ) located in the engine compartment ( relay # 5 is the fuel pump relay )
It is located in the front passenger footwell , in the right corner , just above the carpet if you want to look at it . It should have a button on the top of the switch that pops up if the switch has been tripped ( so that no power goes to the electric fuel pump ) and it will have an electrical connection to the bottom of the switch
I have a 1995 Ford Explorer XLT and there isn't a switch to turn off the passenger airbag like in the pick-up trucks
Chevrolet actually never had a fuel cut off switch like the ford rollover switch if that is what you are talkin about. hope this helps.
It is a safety switch ford has used forever. If the vehicle is involved in an accident, the switch is supposed to trigger not letting any fuel flow to the engine. It can be reset by just pushing like a cicuit breaker.
