I had a bad right front wheel bearing on my 2004 ford ranger 4X4. When the mechanic took it for a ride he swore it was the left front wheel bearing that was bad but when he got it on the lift it turned out to be the right front.300 dollars for the part and 85 dollars for the labor plus tax.
normally a bearing that is going bad - does the sound change with vehicle speed? Then it's a wheel bearing, or if stick shift it could be form the transmission - a bad bearing there. If wheel bearing sometimes you can hear it if turn wheel hard R or L & if so whatever way you turn wheel is the side that is bad. If this is so, & high miles replace BOTH wheel bearings
Improper installation. Not torqued correctly. Torque to factory specs. Did you also replace the race on which the bearing rides? If not, this is your problem. A bent wheel, bad tire, or bad strut or shock can also cause a bearing to fail prematurely.
front wheel bearing bad on a motorcycle
If you do not change a bad wheel bearing the bearing will cut a groov in the axle.If it goes on long enough the axle will have to be replaced. It could also ruin the axle housing. Then you would have to replace the rearend.
A wheel bearing could.
If a bearing is bad, You will hear a whining noise from the bad bearing. Try to listen if it is up front or back. The noise will get louder as you go faster. Turn left and right to determine what side the bad bearing is on. If you turn left and the noise gets louder, the right bearing is bad, turn right and the noise gets louder, the left bearing is bad.
how do you find out if wheel bearing is bad on a 2001 grand am gt
It is most likely the Wheel Bearing that is going bad.
Most of the time you can hear a bad wheel bearing but the only 100% sure way to know is to remove the bearing and inspect it.Most of the time you can hear a bad wheel bearing but the only 100% sure way to know is to remove the bearing and inspect it.
A grinding or abnormal noise at the wheel is a good sign the bearing is bad. Unload the bearing by moving the vehicle left or right while moving. If the noise comes and goes when doing this, the bearing is bad. The only positive way to verify this is to remove the bearing and look at it. Pitting, scouring, and any other signs of wear indicate the bearing needs replacing. Be sure and replace the race if it is not perfect.
