What does it mean if the person wear wedding ring but after few days you don't see ring in his finger?

It means his wife divorced him or that he just took it off for that day to get it cleaned or something. But I remember seeing a show and the guy was wearing his wedding ring while he was looking for another woman and all the women were dissing him cause they thought he was married so he had to take it off so everybody knew his wife died and then he later found a girl.
