In "The Legend of Spyro: Eternal Night" for the Wii, a tail strike is a hit on the tail of a scorpion. The scorpions have cannons in their tails that need to be obliterated to continue in the game.
Well, a little. Seahorses has a funny, curled, almost prehensile tail that they can anchor themselves around seaweeds with. And once they have something to hold on to they can lean out from that anchor point. Apart from that they have a really tiny dorsal(=back) fin that they flap at a furious paces to swim about.

A scorpion's stinger is on the very end of its tail, so when it wants to sting something the front two pincers will grab it to hold it in place then the tail will come down and strike they prey/victim.
Scared, or shy. They commonly lay they're ears back as well.
