It means there is a problem with the system and you need to get it looked at right away! You don't want that thing to fail while you're on the road (or even parked, literally your rear bumper will be on the ground and good luck getting it towed w/o damaging the car. Personally I recommend the coil spring conversion. . . cost about $70-$90 for the kit and if you are at all mechanically inclined you can do it yourself.
