It usually means that the alternator is unable to charge the battery. The usual causes are a bad battery, bad alterator, bad battery cables or bad voltage regulator. Have the charging system checked (many repair shops and some auto parts shops will do this for free, especially if they feel it will mean a sale).
ONE thing that will do this is disconnect the battery , then reconnect the battery but if the check engine light comes back on then take the veh to the garage for more diagnosing of the systems
My 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan began doing this and it is because the battery has a low charge, could be due to old battery, or even bad alternator. The quickest and easiest fix is to charge the battery and then wait and see if it happens again after. If it happens then you should have it looked at by a professional
Dead cell in the battery itself or something is on pulling power from the battery. A light somewhere or a stuck relay.
The antilock system has detected a malfunction.
Take the - battery cable off and put it back on.
Resetting an engine light on a 1996 Dodge Caravan SE is very easy to do. The battery can be disconnected for up to one minute to make the check engine light go off.
Usually when the battery light comes on its the Alternator, or a bad wire from Alternator to battery, but id check Alternator first.
try disconnecting battery for 15 minutes
A dead alternator is most likely. Maybe the ECM but not likely.
Bad or dirty engine to body or battery to body earth wire (my choice). Or faulty battery lamp wiring. Clean all ground wires that you can find.
You should bring it in for service to a trained mechanic. The airbag light comes on when the computer has detected a malfunction.
Dead cell in the battery which will require it to be replaced. Or, you may have a light on somewhere pulling power from the battery. Can also be a relay that is stuck.
