Loose tappets normally. They sit in the cylinder head on the rockers between the camshaft push-rods and the valves and are adjusted to bring the gap between the rocker and the valve to the manufacturers spec. Too much gap and the valves do not open properly, restricting fuel intake / exhaust gas purging. Too little gap and the valves will not close properly and can burn out. Mechanical tappets can be adjusted, hydraulic ones are eventually changed if the tapping gets too bad. There is a third type called bucket and shim but quite rare these days an the adjustment is complicated.
Less likely is a sticking valve; a condition where, for a number of reasons, a valve does not close properly leaving a big gap between the rocker and the valve with consequent ticking and normally a loss of power.

An increasingly noisy ticking sound coming from your engine could indicate a lifter malfunction. I once had an exhaust valve lifter 'mushroom' where the cam makes contact with the flat tappet and the lifter wouldn't move up & down smoothly. This kept the exhaust valve from letting out the unspent fuel through the exhaust and the fuel had only one place to go: past the rings & into the oil. My cylinders needed rehoned.
It could be just a lifter gone bad. Unless you're into major HP(say over 400) you've probly got hydraulic lifters. This type builds up oil pressure to take up its 1/8" or so of slack they'll see when the engine hasn't recenlty run .
You have an old car or it's about to be broken.
Hearing the ticking of the clock often signifies the passing of time or can evoke a sense of urgency or anxiety. It may also be a reminder of the fleeting nature of time and the need to make the most of it.
It sounds like the engine timing. The sound is coming from your engine valves. They're not in synch with the rest of your engine. It could also be that the valves are worn out. I'd check the timing first, then the seating on the valves.
They do that when they hear a curious sound.
It means the engine has developed a leak. About the size of Mars. Be careful when repairing it tho. It might throw spaghetti at you.
that probably means its time to get a new car
Intrasonic is the sound frequencies which we can hear.

If you mean a noise humans hear, it is spelled sound. The gun made a loud sound.
a "knocking" noise could be your lifters. and the ticking when accelerating and letting out of the gas is the same thing. check your oil and if it's full then you may need to think about either having them adjusted, or getting new ones. depending on what you have depends on whether or not you wanna sell it
engine back fires: could be from bad gas, needs tune-up,incorrect timing, coil
Sound travels faster underwater, but this does not mean that divers hear better underwater. It just means that the sound is heard more quickly.
