The transmission is not a 2wd or 4wd. There is way more to it than just changing transmissions or final drive units. This is a really bad idea. Sell this truck and purchase a 4wd. Look under a 4wd Chevy truck and compare it to your 2wd. You will easily see that the components necessary to convert a 2wd to 4wd are many. Forget this idea.
i have a Chevy colorade 2006 and i am wondering what u have to do to convert a front wheel drive into a four wheel drive, and has rear wheel drive TRADE IT
The transmission has nothing to do with the 4wd system and there is nothing to convert. Just install the transmission and you will be good to go if you have the right transmission.
NO... 2 and 4-wheel drive transmissions WILL NOT INTERCHANGE.
No, the rear section is different.
If it is a 1/2 ton then it MUST have a 4-wheel drive 4L60E transmission put in it. If it is a 3/4 ton then it MUST have the 4L80E 4-wheel drive transmission put back in it. 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive transmissions are different. They will NOT interchange.
Most Minivans are front wheel drive and a 97 Chevy Silverado's are rear wheel drive, you do the math.
NO.... The center shaft that runs through the transmission is SHORTER in the 2-wheel drive transmissions because there is no transfur case. 2 and 4-wheel drive transmissions will NOT interchange.
Almost, except the case for a 4WD transmission is designed to mount a transfer case, and the tail shaft is intended to go into said transfer case... a 2WD transmission is not. They will not be compatible.
a blown transmission
i have a 2 wheel drive and someone said i can have his 4 wheel drive but drive train is gone can i use mine and make the 4 wheel drive into a 2 wheel drive
where is the transmission control system on a 1996 chevy silverado 2 wheel drive 5.7
Well, if it's a Chevy truck, usually a 700R4 will be the type of transmission put in a 1992. Or a 4L60E. - Aaron
